As a Machine Learning Engineer at Cesium, James specializes in leveraging machine learning techniques to process and add AI-generated semantic metadata to geospatial content and analytics. With a background in mathematics and computer science, James holds an MS in Computer Science from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, an MS in Mathematics from the University of Mississippi, and a PhD in Computer Science from Florida State University.
Before joining Cesium, James served as the Machine Learning Lead at Element 84, where he led the development of machine learning-driven solutions for geospatial data analysis and visualization. Prior to that, James worked as a Senior Software Engineer at Azavea, where he contributed to projects in machine learning, geospatial analysis, and open source software. He has expertise in computational geometry and algorithms, which has resulted in multiple publications and conference presentations.
Outside of work, James enjoys indulging in retro video games and computing and immersing himself in '80s to early '90s era science fiction.
