Following the World's Toughest Adventure Race with CesiumJS

The Red Bull X-Alps 2019 is an intense, multi-day hiking and paragliding race across the Alps. The race course covers over 1,000 km by straight line, though the athletes’ path takes them much farther than that.

Contestants start with a sprint from the Salzburg city center and will spend the next week or more hiking, mountaineering, and paragliding through Austria, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, France, and Monaco.

This is the ninth edition of the race, and just as in 2015, fans can follow the race live with an app built on CesiumJS. Given the rugged terrain and paragliding flights that make up this race, 3D visualization is critical to understanding the competition. With the CesiumJS app, fans can follow the race online, including seeing athletes’ current GPS position and detailed statistics about their speed and altitude.
